small ways to feel more supported

We need each other right now…

…and we all need support, whether we want to admit it or not (glances in the mirror).

Asking for help is one thing I’ve personally been notoriously unbalanced with.

There’s a Katniss Everdeen inside me who wants to take down the empire all on her own.

A stubborn streak of independence that will DO IT ALL.

But in times like these, that’s a one-way ticket to a not very fun place.

So this week, I’m sharing ways to lean on each other and find the support we need—without waiting until we’re ready to be featured on Snapped.

  • Call/text a friend you haven’t talked to in a while. Check-in, see how they’re doing. Send a funny meme and say you’re thinking of them.

  • Find a child, preferably one you already know. Play with them. See the world through their unjaded eyes.

  • Give hugs freely and often.

  • Soak your feet in hot water with epsom salt while you watch your favorite show.

  • Light a candle, grab some hot chocolate, and read a book you really like.

  • Go for a drive and just scream. As loud as you want.

  • Talk with or meet your neighbors. Connect with the people around you.

  • Donate canned food to your local food pantry.

  • Make a dish for your local community meal.

  • Get out your markers / paints, and just make something. A flower, a smiley face, an abstract blob of your feelings.

  • Write a letter to someone you miss or appreciate, and send it.

  • Take a slow walk in nature (a la Hilary in the woods 8 years ago).

  • Put on your favorite song and dance (or cry) like no one’s watching.

  • Look through old photos that make you smile.

  • TAKE A NAP—rest is the best.

  • Make a small batch of cookies you intend to share with someone nearby, but instead, share with yourself.

  • Watch a comedy special or your favorite funny movie / show. Arrested Development is my go-to, and weirdly, very on point right now.

  • Make a list of the things you’re proud of, no matter how small.

Take care of yourself because this world needs you and your gifts.

xx Caitlin

P.S. I’ve been thinking about the work I do, how I show up in the world, and what really matters.

I often get emails from people saying, Hey Caitlin! I have a story to tell, I want to share it with my audience, I want to write a book, I want to start my own publishing press. Can you help?

If you want support with a writing / editing / a creative project, I’m here and ready to offer my support. The world needs your voice.

Whatever you're working on, whether it's a book or anything else, I'm wishing you the greatest success with your project—and would love to help in whatever way I can.
